Feasibility Studies

This scheme is open to enterprises seeking to carry out a Feasibility Study aimed at developing their innovative ideas within a tailored and supportive environment that aligns with the specific needs of their sector. The scheme aims to support enterprises in covering the costs of researching their proposed business or new business idea to assess its viability and long-term sustainability.

Micro, Small, Medium-sized and Small Mid-Cap Enterprises

Cut-off dates:

30th April, 16th May, 30th May, 13th June, 30th June, 11th July, 31st July, 14th August, 12th September, 30th September, 17th October, 31st October, 14th November, 28th November and 12th December, 2025.

 

Scheme Summary

The feasibility study should enable enterprises to draw clear conclusions about the business idea, identify necessary resources, and assess its potential for success.


This scheme supports investments that contribute to Malta’s Research & Innovation landscape by promoting innovation, creativity, and entrepreneurship in line with Malta’s Smart Specialisation Strategy (S3) 2021–2027.


The R&D Feasibility Study Grant is open to projects aligned with the following six S3 areas:

  1. Health and Well-being

  2. Sustainable Use of Resources for Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation

  3. Smart Manufacturing

  4. Marine & Maritime Technology

  5. Aviation and Aerospace

  6. Future Digital Technologies


Activities funded under the Feasibility Study must be completed within six (6) months from the date of the Grant Agreement. Extensions may be granted upon justified request by the Beneficiary. However, all investments must be finalised by 30th June 2029.

Eligible Costs

The eligible costs for feasibility studies shall be the costs of the study.


As a minimum the feasibility study shall include:

  1. Executive summary including any details related to the starting TRL

  2. Market Research

  3. Estimation of Costs and Revenue Generation

  4. Financial, Economic and Welfare Assessment

  5. Risk Profile

  6. Next Steps

Application Process

The scheme operates on a demand-driven basis. The Implementing Body (IB) has issued a public open rolling call, inviting eligible Undertakings to submit their applications. All submissions will be assessed and evaluated, and those meeting the Gateway Criteria will be considered for grant approval. Grants will be awarded on a first-come, first-served basis, subject to the availability of funds.


To apply under this call, applicants must first submit a Project Concept Note to the Measures and Support Division. Based on the feedback received on the Concept Note, further guidance will be provided on the next steps in the application process.
