XJENZA funding schemes

Xjenza Malta champions research and innovation (R&I) engagement across public, academic and private sectors, supporting the development of ideas into tangible solutions. 

It manages national & European funding programmes for R&I through the design and implementation of a range of initiatives that create opportunity for collaboration, research, and innovation across the Maltese ecosystem.

Clean Energy Transition Partnership (CETP) 2026 Joint Transnational Call

The CETP 2026 Joint Transnational Call supports international collaborative research and innovation projects focused on accelerating the clean energy transition. It enables Maltese entities to participate in multi-country consortia addressing sustainable energy technologies and climate-neutral solutions.

The Go To Market (GTM) Programmes

The Go To Market (GTM) Programmes support innovators and enterprises in commercialising research and innovative ideas. The scheme focuses on bridging the gap between development and market entry by helping participants refine, validate, and prepare their solutions for commercial uptake.

EIT Regional Innovation Booster Malta Edition (EIT RIB)

The EIT Regional Innovation Booster (RIB) Malta Edition supports local innovators by connecting them to the European Institute of Innovation and Technology ecosystem, offering access to funding, mentoring, and international networks to strengthen innovation and growth potential.

Loan Assistance Programme (GTM LA)

The Go To Market – Loan Assistance Programme provides financial support through loan assistance to help innovative ventures bring products and services closer to commercialisation and scale their operations effectively.

Prototype to Minimum Viable Product (P2M) Programme

The P2M Programme assists innovators in converting early-stage prototypes into minimum viable products, enabling technical validation and initial market testing to support progression towards commercial readiness.

TRANSCAN-4 Joint Transnational Call 2026

The TRANSCAN-4 Joint Call funds collaborative research in translational cancer studies, supporting projects that aim to improve cancer detection, treatment, and patient outcomes through international cooperation and innovation.

Digital Innovation Programme 2026

The Digital Innovation Programme 2026 funds projects that promote the development and adoption of advanced digital technologies, including artificial intelligence, data analytics, cybersecurity, and other emerging digital solutions.

EIT Jumpstarter – Category for Maltese Startups and Innovators

The EIT Jumpstarter is a pre-acceleration programme designed to help early-stage innovators transform ideas into viable business ventures through training, mentoring, and access to European innovation ecosystems.

Xjenza Malta–TÜBİTAK 2026 Joint Call for R&I Proposals

This joint call supports collaborative research and innovation projects between Malta and Türkiye, fostering bilateral cooperation, knowledge exchange, and the development of innovative solutions.

PRIMA Training and Mobility Support Scheme 2026 

The PRIMA scheme provides funding for training, mobility, and networking activities linked to Mediterranean research priorities, strengthening skills development and collaboration among researchers.

PF2MT – Postdoctoral Fellowship Training Scheme for Incoming Postdocs to Malta

The PF2MT scheme supports incoming postdoctoral researchers by funding research and training activities in Malta, enhancing research excellence and attracting high-level talent to the local ecosystem.

Innovation for Industry (I4I)

The Innovation for Industry programme funds collaborative projects between industry and research organisations aimed at developing innovative products, processes, or services that address real industry needs and improve competitiveness.

The Transdisciplinary Research Programme supports collaborative, cross-sectoral research projects that address Malta’s key societal challenges by bringing together academia, industry, public entities, and civil society. The programme promotes the co-creation of innovative, impact-driven solutions aligned with European priorities such as climate change, sustainable cities, public health, and environmental resilience.

The Fourth Call for Malta PECS 2026

The Fourth Call for Malta PECS 2026 provides funding opportunities for Maltese organisations to develop space-related research and innovation projects under the European Space Agency’s Plan for European Cooperating States (PECS). The scheme supports a wide range of activities, including feasibility studies, technology development, and space science, enabling local entities to build capabilities and participate in the growing European space sector.

European Innovation Council Programmes (EIC)

The European Innovation Council (EIC) Programmes provide funding and support for breakthrough innovations with high growth potential. The schemes target startups, SMEs, and researchers, helping them develop and scale disruptive technologies from early-stage research to market deployment.

Research Networking Scheme (RNS)

The Research Networking Scheme supports Maltese researchers in building international partnerships by funding participation in networking events, brokerage meetings, and collaboration activities, facilitating access to European research opportunities.

ERC Support Scheme 2026

The ERC Support Scheme 2026 assists researchers applying for European Research Council grants by providing funding for mentorship, proposal development, and training, helping to strengthen the quality and competitiveness of applications

HIPAS – Horizon Internationalisation Partnership Award Scheme

The HIPAS scheme supports researchers and organisations in preparing Horizon Europe proposals by funding expert consultancy, proposal writing, and partnership development, improving chances of securing European funding.

THCS Joint Transnational Call 2026 – Access to Care

The THCS Joint Call 2026 focuses on transforming health and care systems by funding collaborative projects that improve access to care, strengthen healthcare delivery, and promote innovative, patient-centred solutions across participating countries.

NCP_WIDERA.NET Travel Grants

The NCP_WIDERA.NET Travel Grants support researchers and innovators in attending international events, networking activities, and proposal-building meetings, helping them connect with partners and participate in Horizon Europe opportunities.

Market Discovery Plan (MD) Voucher

The Market Discovery Plan (MD) Voucher supports early-stage innovators in exploring market opportunities by funding activities such as market research, feasibility analysis, and validation, helping refine business strategies before commercialisation.

Business Plan (BP) Voucher

The Business Plan (BP) Voucher assists innovators in developing robust and investor-ready business plans by supporting consultancy services and strategic planning activities required to bring ideas closer to market.

Access2 Partnerships (A2P) Scheme

The Access2 Partnerships (A2P) Scheme enables Maltese entities to establish and strengthen international research and innovation collaborations by supporting partnership-building activities and participation in European consortia.

Intellectual Property Registration (IPR) Voucher

The Intellectual Property Registration (IPR) Voucher supports innovators in protecting their ideas by funding the registration of intellectual property rights, helping secure ownership and enhance commercial potential.

Horizon Europe Networking Support Scheme (NET2HE)

The NET2HE scheme supports researchers in building strong consortia for Horizon Europe proposals by funding travel, networking, and participation in brokerage events, strengthening collaboration and proposal success rates.

EP BrainHealth – Joint Transnational Calls 2026

The EP BrainHealth Joint Transnational Calls 2026 support collaborative, international research projects aimed at improving brain health across the lifespan. The scheme funds interdisciplinary research addressing neurological, mental, and neurodegenerative disorders, enabling Maltese entities to participate in multinational consortia and contribute to innovative solutions that enhance prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and overall wellbeing.
