MCST funding schemes
The Malta Council for Science and Technology champions R&I engagement across public, academic and private sectors and provides support measures across the research eco-system to help your ideas become a reality.
It manages national & EU funds for R&I through the development and operation of programmes, which in turn, create vehicles for research across the public, academic and private sectors.

Fusion
FUSION is a national funding programme that drives and supports local Research and Innovation (R&I), as well as providing the necessary support for researchers and technologists to turn their innovative ideas into a market-ready reality.

Commercialisation Vouchers Programme
The Commercialisation Voucher Programme offers financial support to researchers who want to improve, develop, and commercialise their technical as well as non-technical ideas.

Technology Development Programme
The Technology Development Programme is another programme within FUSION, with the aim of providing state financing in the form of grants for research, development and innovation in science and technology. The focus of the Programme is to fund the actual development of the research and innovation proposal with the possibility of having a prototype of the proposed solution.

Internationalisation Partnership Award Scheme
Option A: aims to foster mutually beneficial international relationships between local R&I-performing academic or private entities and foreign counterparts.
Option B: opportunities for Maltese entities intending to submit a Horizon Europe proposal as the coordinator of a consortium to engage a service provider (local or foreign) who will be supporting the applicant through proposal writing and submission.

Covid-19 R&D Fund
The €5.3 Million COVID-19 R&D Fund is to target public, academic and private entities. As a funding mechanism, it will enable R&D on COVID-19 as a departure point, yet with outcomes not only addressing innovative and/or improved approaches related to the current pandemic, but also potential future waves and other antiviral relevant research.

Research Excellence Programme
This programme supports the early-stage development of innovative projects proposed by public entities, higher education institutes and industry players. The Research Excellence Programme is one of FUSION’s portfolio of programmes.

ERC Support Scheme
The Scheme aims to strengthen the opportunities for talented researchers to obtain grants from the European Research Council (ERC) for excellent and ground-breaking research based on researchers’ own ideas within all areas of research.

Horizon Europe Networking Support Scheme (NET2HE)
The scheme is offering stakeholders from Malta the financial support to attend Horizon Europe networking and brokerage events held overseas in a bid to increase the uptake in Horizon Europe proposal submissions. The aim is to incentivize Maltese participation in brokerage sessions and networking events.

Internationalisation Partnership Awards Scheme Plus (IPAS+)
Option A: opportunities for collaborative initiatives between Maltese entities and at least one foreign entity of proven track record of excellence.
Option B: opportunities for Maltese entities intending to submit a Horizon Europe proposal as the coordinator of the consortium to engage a service provider (local or foreign) who will be supporting the applicant through proposal writing and submission.

Postdoctoral Fellowship Training Scheme for Incoming Postdocs to Malta (PF2MT)
This initiative supports travel and accommodation expenses for experienced researchers willing to submit a proposal with Maltese entity host (Beneficiary) for the MSCA Postdoctoral Fellowship call.

European Innovation Council (EIC) Support Scheme
Option A – Business Coaching: Applicants may apply for a grant to recruit a business coach matching the specific industry and market context. The coach should challenge assumptions and consider new options in a learning-and-solving manner.
Option B – Pitch Coach: Applicants may apply for a grant to recruit a pitch coach in preparation for the short and/or full application stage. Coaching provides applicants with the opportunity to further their communication skills, as well as develop the capacity to share the right information, engage the audience and pitch to potential investors.

Space Research Fund
This Fund continues to provide financial support for research, development and innovation in the downstream Satellite Earth Observation (EO) sector, specifically projects that deal with the processing and exploitation of data collected through EO satellites.

This ambitious initiative is set to build research and innovation capacities and to develop knowledge and common innovative solutions for water management and agro-food systems on both shores of the Mediterranean, inspired by principles of co-ownership, mutual interest and shared benefits across the Mediterranean basin.

MCST-TÜBİTAK
his bilateral call will support cooperation in Science, Technology, and Innovation in the thematic areas of water management, sustainable farming systems and agro-food value chains.

JPI Oceans ( The Joint Programming Initiative Healthy and Productive Seas and Oceans)
Joint Actions are initiated to implement the Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda of JPI Oceans. The size and scope of each action will vary depending on the research needs and the method used will depend upon the objective.

SINO-Malta Collaboration
MCST and MOST launch annual Calls for funding to support bilateral R&I projects between Maltese and Chinese researchers. Each Call focuses on different thematic areas depending on the level of interest for collaboration between the two parties and ensuring alignment with Malta’s current needs and identified RIS3 priorities.

The Clean Energy Transition Partnership (CETPartnership)
The CETPartnership aims to fund projects that develop applicative solutions and provide results for the clean energy transition. Most projects are expected to aim for solutions meeting medium to high technology readiness level (TRL 6-8) combining technologies, marked related solutions and stakeholder involvement.
